Dom Starsia, the head lacrosse coach at the University of Virginia is notorious for recruiting “athletes” who play lacrosse and not just lacrosse players.

And any strength and conditioning coach worth his salt will tell you that a well-rounded “athlete” will beat a lesser athlete with equal technical skills.

As a lacrosse goalie, I have always told people when I have the chance to work with a well-rounded athlete they always pick up the position better than a non athlete.

Along those lines, I saw an interesting article today on Forbes about this topic and how it relates to football. I’m not a fan of how the article ends, but it’s worth a look.
