ATTENTION: THIS ARTICLE IS IN THE WORKS BUT I THOUGHT I’D AT LEAST SHARE THE AUDIO AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

This past weekend our lacrosse goalie community got a scare when news of a lacrosse goalie collapsing in a game came through. Another case of Commotio Cordis.

Because of this, our lacrosse goalie community was filled with concerned parents who were quick to rush out and buy new chest protectors for their goalies.  Many messaged me directly wondering, “is my goalie safe?”  “Should this be something I should be worried about?” “What chest protector should I buy?”

I realized that I had never gone into great depth on this topic.  Commotio Cordis is a serious deal.  As a coach it’s not something I really want my athletes worried about, but as a parent I know that other parents need to know just what it is and what to be worried about and what to do about it.

The video that will go along with this article is from a Facebook Live I did for our community.  The podcast is the audio from that video.  Both will be linked here.

But this article goes more in depth on the topic so I hope you will read it.  If you run a goalie blog or work with goalies on any level you may want to link to it from your website as well.

Let’s get started…

What You First Need To Know About Commotio Cordis and Lacrosse Goalies

Now, as I write this, I know you may be reading this many months or even years after it happened so that idea that this occurred “this past weekend” will make it seem recent.
