Critique - Steve Kozuhowski Photo Hey so I just wanted to mention a couple of things I noticed off of this photo from Messiah Lacrosse Goalie, Steve Kozuhowski:

I’d make that butt end on the stick a little bit bigger.  You never know when you’re reaching out of the crease to snag a pass, or corral a loose ball on the end of your stick.  You’ll need a bigger butt end then to catch on your glove so you don’t lose your stick.  You’ll also appreciate the leverage it gives you for bringing your stick back in the crease.

I love, love, love how you’ve dropped your hips here to get down on this ball coming at you. Most lacrosse goalies would be hinging at the waist.  But you are nice and deep here. Really strong in the legs and this allows you to move in any direction if there is an odd bounce or a deflection.

Here’s a tip though.  You’re pretty rotated with your upper body.  I’d love to see your hands further out from your body.  You see how that left elbow is tight to your chest there?  Not good for cushioning the ball.  And if a ball bounces and hits the throat of your stick it’s going to deflect up in the air and potentially in the cage.  If you get that bottom hand forward you’re going to probably snuff that ball in front of you and be able to grab the rebound.

I really like where you are in the crease.  Nice and aggressive.  Just watch any rebounds that fall just outside the crease, you need to be all over them so you don’t give up something easy for the attack.

I also like the not-so-deep pocket you’ve got there.  Solid for outlet passing and not too deep so it’s hard to make good outlet passes.  All in all Steve this looks solid.  Good luck!
