I’ve always said that I can turn any athlete into a goalie, but I can’t turn any goalie into an athlete.

Many kids fall into the position of goalie because they are too slow to play anywhere else. This is ok, for a little while, but ultimately the competition gets too fierce when you’re going up against great athletes in the cage.

Here’s a quote I just pulled off of LaxPower.com that reinforces this fact:

“Alabama may be lacking in the overall talent pool, but there is no shortage of athletes. Cos uses one of his own players as a prime example,

“Justin Sly moved from midfield to goalie this year. He has 4.4 speed and was one of our best middies, so I did not like the move at first. But he is now the best goalie in the state.” Cos said. “The college coaches wanted him because he is an athlete, and you can’t coach speed.”
